Celeste Ponce’s “In the Air” featured in Texas Architect, describes a topographic view of three East Enders’ daily struggles and personal lives in the backyards of industrial parks in Magnolia Park, Harrisburg/ Manchester, and Pasadena. The photographic journal details where humans and nature collide, while also revealing a human nature defined by culture and resiliency.

While photographing Hidalgo Park, unable to escape the smell, I couldn’t help but think about the future of a J.R. Harris Elementary School teacher who described recess with her students as playtime in a snow flurry of ashes.
